The members of WESCO.

More than 1,122 active members work under the WESCO banner: private companies from many sectors, government agencies and governments, private associations and the bodies that grow from them, such as federations, confederations, institutes and foundations.

Who can belong

Six kinds of member, one consortium

WESCO is not only for Esports federations. Companies, governments and bodies of every level can join, as long as they meet the criteria of their class.

  • Private companies

Brands, publishers, technology and service companies, clubs and agencies. We look at integrity: the record of the company and its owners, past, present and planned activity.

  • Governments

National, regional and city governments that want to build digital sports policy, events and education. We look at the mandate and the type of political involvement.

  • Agencies

Ministries, secretariats, public institutes and chambers that work on sport, technology, education or the digital economy.

  • Federations

Federations and confederations: national and regional sports bodies with real athletes, clubs and activity, one clear role in the territory and good governance.

  • Non-profits

Associations, institutes, foundations and NGOs that work for sport, education and social inclusion.

  • Continental bodies

The regional confederations that unite countries, such as PAMESCO in the Americas and ACES in Africa.

    Membership

    Not everyone gets in.

WESCO does not sell membership to whoever applies. Every member is reviewed and chosen by hand. That is why the list below carries weight, and why some names you might expect to see are not on it: being in the same country or the same sector gives no right to enter. Each request is judged against the criteria below.

    The criteria

    1. Legal existence

A registered body with its statute (associations, federations, institutes) or its articles of incorporation (companies). Government bodies state their office and mandate.

    2. Real representation

A body must represent real athletes, clubs or organizations. One person holding an entire body does not qualify: it has no continuity, no rankings and no legitimacy.

Read the article on “one-man show” organizations
    3. One clear role

WESCO checks whether another body already carries the same national role and meets the criteria. When it does, other requests for that role may not qualify.

    4. Integrity and independence

Clear governance, no hidden conflicts of interest, and acceptance of WESCO’s statute, its rules of conduct and its Ombudsman.

    5. Sport first

Esports serve the formation of citizens. Commercial games are another field. WESCO keeps the line between them clear.

Read the article on private companies and Esports bodies
    6. Real activity

Programs, competitions, education or business that actually build the sector in your territory, not only a name and a logo.

    What we check, by class

    • Federations and associations

Sport first. Real athletes, clubs and activity, one clear role in the territory, and statute in order.

    • Private companies

Integrity first. We review the company, its owners and its record: what it did, what it does and what it plans. No hidden conflicts.

    • Governments and agencies

Mandate first. A clear office, the type of political involvement stated openly, and respect for the autonomy of sports bodies.

Governments and agencies. Governments and government agencies follow the same logic: recognition of digital sports, an office with a clear mandate, and respect for the autonomy of the sports bodies. They are welcome, and they are also selected.
